It is now some months since we completed “Project Chrysalis” in Immingham with Cannizaro. We are now in a position where we can see not only the immediate but also the longer term sustainable benefits from the project. On the basis of this perspective, I would like to thank your team for the way that they have handled the implementation and for the success that they have achieved.
We were impressed by how quickly the team were able to understand the complexity of our terminal operations. The approach taken to identify improvement potential was novel and persuasive. The concentration of time spent out on the dock with our terminal Operators and supervisors meant that conclusions were valid and proposals for change were reliable.
The implementation phase was characterised by the hands-on collaboration with our staff, management and above all those second to the team. A very positive and open environment was created which enabled us to deal with potentially difficult changes to job activities, work Patterns, rosters, shift structures and management styles. We were able to realise major improvements in labour and equipment utilisation as well as improvements to terminal management and service levels and importantly, achieve the financial savings that were targeted.
The tools provided for forecasting, planning and measuring demand and performance have left us better placed to manage the future requirements of the business. We look forward to developing this process during the perpetuation phase in Immingham. I also look forward to continuing our relationship with Cannizaro in other areas of our business.
